The Cottonwood Inn made for a perfect lodging last weekend for my birthday excursion to Taos. My husband and I stayed in the Mesa Vista Room, a luxurious indulgence worth the money. It has a fireplace, pre-laid and ready to go, with extra wood provided, a very comfortable king size bed with high end bedding, a huge steam shower for two, lots of natural light and beautiful views. Best of all, it has a gigantic hot tub, in the room! The owners, Chantal and Brantley, are friendly, welcoming, and available for anything we needed without being pushy or in the way. They clearly know that little details in a place like this are important, for they were everywhere, such as the niceties in the room: antique furniture, candles and matches, wine glasses and corkscrew, Chantal's homemade conditioner, shampoo, lotion and soaps, a thick and very informative guest book with recommendations on restaurants and things to do, robes and slippers, flat screen tv with built in DVD player, a sound machine if you're sensitive to noise (such as that from roaming coyotes or honking geese--generally it is very quiet there), an alarm clock with dock for an iPod, even a can of air freshner spray in the bathroom. There's an armoire which holds a microwave, refrigerator and coffee maker, with included coffee and tea. There aren't phones in the room, however, so bring your cell phone if you have one. There is wireless internet included in the cost of your stay, and it worked fine for us. You get your own parking spot. The Mesa Vista Room is upstairs on the second floor, so if you have a problem with stairs, I would suggest not staying in that room. There are gorgeous views from the balcony leading to the room. While there are no chairs to sit on--it's more of an outdoor hall than a deck to hang out on--it is nevertheless a very nice place to stand outside and look at the views, which include the mountains, the geese and chickens in their pen below, and the fields. In the main house, the details continued, with a large library of books, music and dvds available to guests, afternoon snacks (Chantal is an amazing cook and baker) and drinks, and decor. The house and grounds are just gorgeous and available to guests, whether you want to lounge in the living room or outside in the garden areas. There's a welcoming committee of dogs, chickens and geese, too. Breakfast is very important at a "bed and breakfast" and this did not disappoint at all either. As I mentioned before, Chantal is very talented in the kitchen; her breakfasts are delicious, and the same attention to detail could be seen here as well. Eggs were fresh from their chickens, the perfectly cooked bacon was from free-range humanely farmed pigs and many of the things we ate were home-made. One morning of our stay she made belgian waffles and the other, clafouti, along with fresh fruits both mornings. Brantley served as host, setting a beautiful table, while she was in the kitchen preparing food. Of course, our hosts have no control over how well we get along with fellow guests, but we found the people staying there at the same time as us to be very nice and we enjoyed our conversations over breakfast. My only quibbles are very tiny, nit-picky and personal, and probably won't apply to everyone: --The little sofa in the room in front of the fireplace was a great touch, and it even had a sheepskin rug laid on it for extra comfort. However, both my husband and I found it to be rather uncomfortable. It was too small and squishy for both of us to sit comfortably together and even when it was just one of us at a time, it was still uncomfortable. When you laid flat with your legs dangling over the side to read a book, which we both did at various times, it was only then that it was comfortable. I understand that the space available was small and that was the right sized piece of furniture, it was just that it wasn't really comfy for us. --Likewise, I didn't find the chairs by the windows that comfortable either, but that again is a very personal comment--other people may find them perfectly fine, and I did appreciate them being provided. --The little matchboxes everywhere (by the fireplace, by the candle in the bathroom, by the candles around the hot tub, by the candleabras on the wall) were a great touch--however, they were a pain in the *ss to use and many were wasted in the attempt to light candles and fingers were almost burned several times. We ended up buying a lighter the next day for that evening's use. What would work better, in my opinion, would be lighters, such as the long nosed type used to light fireplaces and bbq grills. --The coffee at breakfast could have been richer and stronger. This is the nit-pickiest comment I have. I'm type who likes her coffee STRONG, like, it could put hair on your chest strong, so...yeah. Compared to how delicious everything else served to us was, this was just not that good. We'll definitely be back!

A wonderful inn, run by two wonderful people. My partner and I traveled to Taos from Denver in order to be married. The owners, Shantal and Brantly, were very gracious in allowing the ceremony to occur in the inn's great room. The inn is meticulously kept, and the breakfasts were incredible. The ambiance of this place is striking. I would encourage anyone to book a room for a night, a week, or as long as you wish.

We spent our 10th wedding anniversary at the Cottonwood Inn recently, and have decided that we will return each year!! The Inn is located on a beautiful piece of land just outside Taos, with mountain views one way and a lovely view of the garden and "prairie" the other way. We stayed in the Mesa Vista Room, and truly enjoyed the quite solitude of the private porch in the evenings. It's pricey, but well worth the extra bit for the hot tub in the suite and large steam shower. Owner Chantel was wonderful!! She has a lovely sense of humor, a fantastic way about her that lets you know you're welcome to ask for anything you need, but without being pushy or making us feel compelled to take her up on her offers. We enjoyed all the animals, including 4-weeks old ducks that paraded around during the day. And the food? Awesome. Nothing more to say. Give the Cottonwood Inn a try. It's well worth it.

Ditto to the southwestern room review by Annie(we liked the decor). We stayed here for our honeymoon and thought that the whole experience was wonderful. We got the silver package and the horseback riding and the massage really made the experience that much more enjoyable. Chantal's afternoon treats were delicious, the breakfast was a great start to the day and the chocolate covered strawberries and champagne were a perfect touch. Don't be startled by the dogs that bark as you drive up, we learned quickly they are nice and they turned out to be good companions during the stay. The gardens and sitting areas around the property offer a relaxing place to unwind after enjoying the beautiful Taos scenery.

Several months ago I booked for three nights but left after one. The female inn keeper meet us not by welcoming us but reciting a long list of ridiculous rules which put us off. Such as "don't look at or go near the snarling dogs outside your room". We observed an attitude of "we are doing you a big favor by letting you stay here". After expressing my displeasure about several issues, including the smokey room, we were told to leave. We went to the Touchstone Inn in Taos and had a great time for the rest of our time in town. The final insult happened when the credit card bill arrived and I found that the Cottonwood inn had charged me a higher rate for the one night we stayed. For what they charge you can easily find much nicer accommodations and atmosphere elsewhere.

The Cottonwood Inn was precisely what we were hoping to find for an ideal getaway. From the moment we walked in, we found the right balance of everything: The innkeepers Shantal and Brantly were wonderfully friendly without overpowering us--they knew how to give us space. The room was made-to-order, with a kiva wood-burning fireplace and a two-person hot tub. Every meal (of course, mostly breakfast, but we also joined the innkeepers for Thanksgiving dinner--Indian cuisine!) was gourmet and delicious, including an oatmeal dish that will make you rethink what oatmeal for breakfast really means! The pets (everything from dogs to chickens and ducks!) added to the warm down-home elegance of the Inn. In short, we felt completely at home--without any of the work! Highly recommend this place--and we will definitely make a return visit.

We stayed in the Southwestern room for three nights. The room was really comfortable, we loved the two-person hot tub outside (amazing view of the stars) and the breakfasts each morning were extremely delicious. The owners have a nice collection of DVDs, and a nice living room to hang out in and place games in. The decor in our room was a tiny bit cheesy, but if that's the only downside, I'll take it!

My husband and I had a wonderful time at this wonderful B & B. The comfortable inn was immaculately clean and full of interesting books, etc. in the common areas. We were made to feel at home in the room, common areas, and beautiful gardens. Calm dogs were also there to welcome, but were never a bother. The breakfasts were wonderful with fresh eggs from their on site chickens, fruit, fresh bread, homemade syrup, jelly, etc. Sweets were always available in the dining room, as well as tea, cold water, and sodas. Everything was homemade and delicous. Our room was very comfortable with all the amenities. We enjoyed the whirlpool tub built for two! If we are ever in the area again, we will call ahead for reservations!
